The STMA 10 AAA boys baseball team capped off an incredible 37-5 season by winning the prestigious Gopher State Tournament of Champions held in Bloomington, MN. STMA was seeded 2nd out of the 28 teams to participate in this invitational tournament by winning the Woodbury and Elk River tournaments earlier in the season.
The Knights began the tournament by winning their pool games over Orono 15-0, Andover 11-1, and Eden Prairie 4-3 to move on to the championship bracket. In the eight team championship bracket, STMA bats stayed hot to defeat Lakeville 13-9 in the first round game. In the semi-final game against Sioux Falls, the Knights needed a last inning rally to tie the game 2-2 and send it into extra innings. In the 7th inning, the Knights scored the game winning run and held Sioux Falls scoreless to advance to the championship game with a 3-2 victory.
The championship game pitted #2 seeded STMA vs. #1 seeded Brooklyn Park. STMA jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Strong pitching and flawless defense helped the Knights seal the 9-0 victory and take home the title. As a reward for winning, each player will receive a custom engraved championship ring from Jostens presented on the field at the Metrodome before the September 6th Twins game against the Detroit Tigers. Tickets are still available to join in the ceremony and show your STMA pride.
